For those who work in the digital marketing field, Snapchat may not be the first idea that comes to mind when discussing new web marketing trends, but there’s plenty of reasons to consider using this social media platform for your business.
Snapchat is a photo messaging app available for iPhone or Android devices that allows the user to take “snaps”, or videos and photos that are only available for 10 seconds. That means when you send a photo out to other users they can only view it for 10 seconds before it’s gone forever. At the end of 2014, the number of active monthly users using this app reached over 100 million.
At first it might sound counter-productive to try and advertise through a service that will only promote your product for 10 seconds, but as a business -big or small- it’s important to utilize every avenue of social media available to help spread the word about your product or service. So how can you use Snapchat to your advantage?
This is a relatively untapped social media market. Because of Snapchat’s unique system, many marketing agencies and companies haven’t been able to get a firm hold on how to use it for business. This means Snapchat has yet to be “ruined” or overthrown by competitors and that there is still a ton of untapped marketing potential to be had.
Companies who are on Snapchat have been utilizing the ability to connect with their customers. For example, NYC yogurt shop “16 Handles” had their followers snap an image of themselves holding or tasting 16 Candles yogurt, and the company would respond by offering free coupons to the participants. This makes for excellent user engagement and gets people talking about the company. Snapchat is also a great way to show off a new product before revealing the product on the actual launch date, as was the case with Taco Bell’s Beefy Crunch Burrito.
Snapchat is also great for targeting a young demographic. If you’re business demographic sits between 15-25 years old, then you need to get on Snapchat. What better way to reach your demo than by going straight to the source? Currently it’s reported that 70% or more of Snapchat users are female, and nearly 80% are college students. Another statistic from Sumpto shows that almost 60% of Snapchat users are likely to buy into a brands service if they were contacted with a coupon via Snapchat.
Don’t let this up and coming, alluring video app sneak away from your businesses marketing potential!
